Any day I’m having a rough day, I look around and realize that I live where people pay to go vacation, so can it REALLY be that bad? Union, Washington is located just north of Shelton by about 15 minutes. Situated directly on Hood Canal (yes, it’s a fjord!) with stunning views of mountains, easy access to forests and walking trails, a stone’s throw from the Olympic’s…. it’s nature’s paradise, and completely worth the drive or the stay.
The little town of Union, itself, is a quirky and unique spot filled with residents who are artistic and chill. There’s constantly open mic nights, live music, art shows, and fantastic culture.
I thought maybe I’d put together a little directory of the shops and restaurants around here. If you ARE a shop or restaurant (or whatever) around here and want to get on this list – well, come down to the shop and get me all your info and we’ll make it happen.

This is our little shop (my wife Janene and I). it’s a little gift shop located in the heart of Union, immediately between USPS and Union Square Deli at a small shopping center called – funny enough – Union Square. For the locals, there’s also the OCCU branch, the 24 hr gym (membership required), a fantastic chiropractic office, Falcon Financial, and finally the Union home base of Hood Canal Communications.
Our Backyard Studio is Janene’s art, and the shop is the working studio, so you can often find her in the shop painting all kinds of beautiful things.

The Deli, as we all call it, is a coffee shop and deli that has absolutely delicious foods, from pizzas to soup and salad, sandwiches and breakfast. If you make it to Union, this is the best coffee shop to grab your morning yummy. And then your afternoon yummy, and then Ice Cream….

Thin-crust Neapolitano-style pizza will emerge from the wood-fired oven at Hood Canale’ beginning spring 2023.
